Aileen obtained an honours degree in Pharmacology from the University of Aberdeen and a PhD from The Hunterian Institute, University of London. She joined Pfizer as a biologist working on the development of new antiarrhythmic drugs before moving to Syntex as a team leader in respiratory pharmacology. Following the transfer of the Syntex facility to Quintiles, Aileen began work in the contract research space, heading up the respiratory and inflammation team before transferring to Aptuit where she became head of respiratory, inflammation and cardiovascular teams in the Department of Pharmacology, performing efficacy work in disease models and regulatory safety pharmacology. Aileen is currently Associate Director of Safety Pharmacology at Charles River in Edinburgh. Aileen has a special interest in the implementation of 3Rs in animal research and has established cross industry collaborations to further the 3Rs in regulatory safety pharmacology and toxicology.
